Some homeowners in Roanoke are digging deep to save energy and money. Sandy Murray with Building Specialists in Roanoke says a lot of consumers are choosing to stay in their existing homes instead of building new ones. Roanoke homeowner and engineer John Chaney recently had crews at his Roanoke home drilling geothermal wells. Chaney says the plan is for water to circulate through tubes in the wells and then back into a heat pump. Chaney designed the system at his home and says it should save 30 to 70% on heating bills.
